How the MOHRE gratuity calculator works
Every MOHRE gratuity calculation on this page starts from the same three inputs: your basic monthly salary, your reason for leaving, and your period of continuous service. Housing, transport and other allowances are always excluded — only the basic salary counts, and the daily wage used throughout is that basic salary divided by 30.
- You must have completed at least 1 year of continuous service to be eligible (Article 51).
- Private-sector employees accrue 21 days of basic salary per year for the first 5 years, then 30 days per year from the 6th year onward.
- Domestic workers accrue a flat 14 days per year instead, under a separate law (see below).
- Resignation and termination are paid identically under the current law — the old ⅓/⅔ resignation reduction only applies to legacy contracts still governed by Federal Law No. 8 of 1980.
- Unpaid leave days do not count towards the qualifying service period.
- The total is capped: 24 months' basic salary for private-sector employees, and a lower cap for domestic workers.
Adjust the fields in the calculator above — including the "Worker type" toggle under Advanced options — and every row of the breakdown recalculates instantly, with no page reload.
MOHRE gratuity calculation example: AED 10,000 basic salary
Take an employee with a basic salary of AED 10,000 and exactly 3 years of continuous service, terminated by the employer. Here is how the private-sector MOHRE gratuity calculation is built up, step by step:
- Daily wage = AED 10,000 ÷ 30 = AED 333.33
- 3 years of service ≥ 1 year, so the employee is eligible.
- All 3 years fall inside the first 5-year tier: 21 days × 3 years = 63 days accrued.
- Gross gratuity = 63 days × AED 333.33 = AED 21,000.00
- Cap check: 24 × AED 10,000 = AED 240,000.00 — well above the gross amount, so no reduction applies.
- Final gratuity: AED 21,000.00
For the same salary and service period under the domestic worker track — 14 days per year instead of 21 — the accrual is 14 × 3 = 42 days, giving a final gratuity of AED 14,000.00 once compared against the domestic cap of AED 60,000.00.
MOHRE gratuity calculator: reference table by years of service
Estimated gratuity for a private-sector employee on a fixed AED 10,000 basic salary, terminated at each milestone of service. Figures are generated by the same engine that powers the calculator above.
| Years of service | Estimated gratuity |
|---|---|
| 1 year | AED 7,000.00 |
| 2 years | AED 14,000.00 |
| 3 years | AED 21,000.00 |
| 4 years | AED 28,000.00 |
| 5 years | AED 35,000.00 |
| 6 years | AED 45,000.00 |
| 7 years | AED 55,000.00 |
| 8 years | AED 65,000.00 |
| 9 years | AED 75,000.00 |
| 10 years | AED 85,000.00 |
| 15 years | AED 135,000.00 |
| 20 years | AED 185,000.00 |
| 25 years | AED 235,000.00 |
The 24-month cap only starts to bind on very long tenures — for example, 30 years of service on the same AED 10,000 basic salary produces a gross amount above the cap, so the final gratuity is held at AED 240,000.00 instead of the uncapped figure.
Common gratuity amounts by basic salary (3 years of service)
A quick lookup for the most common basic salary bands, assuming 3 years of continuous private-sector service and termination by the employer:
| Basic salary | Estimated gratuity |
|---|---|
| AED 5,000/month | AED 10,500.00 |
| AED 10,000/month | AED 21,000.00 |
| AED 15,000/month | AED 31,500.00 |
| AED 20,000/month | AED 42,000.00 |
| AED 30,000/month | AED 63,000.00 |
MOHRE domestic worker gratuity calculator
The MOHRE domestic worker gratuity calculator mode on this page uses a separate legal track from private-sector employees. Domestic workers — including housemaids, drivers, nannies, gardeners and cooks employed directly by a household — are governed by Federal Decree-Law No. 9 of 2022 on domestic workers, not by Federal Decree-Law No. 33 of 2021.
Under this law, gratuity accrues at a flat 14 days of basic salary for every year of service, with no distinction between the first five years and later years — unlike the 21/30-day tiers used for private-sector staff. Select "Domestic worker" under Advanced options in the calculator above (it is the default mode on this page) to see the 14-day accrual applied automatically.
The total is also capped at a lower ceiling than the private-sector 24-month cap. On very long tenures — for example 40 years of domestic service on a AED 10,000 basic salary — the gratuity is held at AED 60,000.00, the domestic-worker cap, rather than the uncapped figure. Because the specific accrual rate and cap for domestic workers sit in the implementing rules under Federal Decree-Law No. 9 of 2022 rather than a single, easily citable article, always confirm the exact figures for your case against your contract, MOHRE, or a licensed labour consultant before relying on them for a dispute.
Eligibility still requires at least one full year of continuous service, and unpaid leave does not count towards that period, exactly as in the private-sector calculation. Free-zone domestic staff and employees on JAFZA-registered contracts should also check our JAFZA gratuity calculator guide for zone-specific nuances.
| Basic salary | Domestic worker gratuity (3 yrs) |
|---|---|
| AED 5,000/month | AED 7,000.00 |
| AED 10,000/month | AED 14,000.00 |
| AED 15,000/month | AED 21,000.00 |
| AED 20,000/month | AED 28,000.00 |
| AED 30,000/month | AED 42,000.00 |
MOHRE end of service calculator: verify your settlement
How to check your gratuity on the MOHRE portal
- Log in to the MOHRE smart app or the mohre.gov.ae portal with your Emirates ID.
- Confirm the basic salary and contract start date registered against your work permit — these are the two figures that drive the whole calculation.
- Re-run the numbers in the MOHRE gratuity calculator above using those confirmed figures.
- Compare the result against the final settlement your employer proposes before signing any release letter.
What to do if your employer does not pay
Under Article 53, an employer must pay all end-of-service dues — gratuity, unpaid salary, notice pay and unused leave — within 14 days of the contract ending. If that deadline passes without payment:
- File a labour complaint through the MOHRE portal, the MOHRE smart app, or the toll-free number 800-60.
- MOHRE will attempt amicable settlement between you and your employer within a set review period.
- If no settlement is reached, MOHRE refers the case to the Judicial Department / labour court for a binding judgment, which can also order penalties for the delay.

Frequently asked questions
Is this MOHRE gratuity calculator official?
This calculator applies the same accrual and cap formula published by the UAE Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MOHRE) under Federal Decree-Law No. 33 of 2021, Article 51, and its 2022 executive regulation. It is an independent estimation tool, not affiliated with or endorsed by MOHRE, and results should be confirmed against your contract and the MOHRE portal.
How does the MOHRE domestic worker gratuity calculator differ from the standard calculation?
The MOHRE domestic worker gratuity calculator uses a flat 14 days of basic salary per year of service under Federal Decree-Law No. 9 of 2022, instead of the 21-day (first 5 years) and 30-day (from year 6) tiers that apply to private-sector employees. The total is also capped lower — around six months' basic salary rather than 24 months. Select the domestic worker mode above to run this calculation.
What can I do if my employer does not pay gratuity on time?
Employers must settle all end-of-service dues, including gratuity, within 14 days of the contract ending (Article 53). If payment is late or disputed, you can file a complaint through the MOHRE portal, the MOHRE app, or by calling the toll-free number 800-60. Unresolved cases can be escalated to the UAE labour courts, which can issue an enforceable judgment.
Am I eligible for gratuity if I worked less than one year?
No. The MOHRE gratuity calculation requires at least one full year of continuous service before any gratuity accrues (Article 51). If you resign or are terminated before completing 12 months, this calculator shows you as ineligible and no end-of-service payment is due, regardless of your basic salary or reason for leaving.
What salary is used in the MOHRE gratuity calculator?
Only your basic salary counts. Housing allowance, transport allowance and any other allowances or bonuses are excluded, even though they appear on your payslip. The daily wage used in every MOHRE gratuity calculation is your basic monthly salary divided by 30 — separate your basic pay from total allowances before entering a figure above.
Does resignation reduce my gratuity under the MOHRE calculator?
No. Under the current law, resignation and termination are treated equally, and both accrue the full 21/30-day gratuity described above. The old reduced-payment rule for resigning employees on unlimited contracts (Federal Law No. 8 of 1980) was abolished when the new labour law took effect in February 2022, and now only applies to legacy contracts still governed by that earlier law.
Is there a cap on the MOHRE end of service calculator result?
Yes. For private-sector employees the gratuity is capped at 24 months' basic salary (Article 51(7)) — for example AED 240,000 on a AED 10,000 basic salary. For domestic workers, Federal Decree-Law No. 9 of 2022 sets a lower cap, at roughly six months' basic salary. Few employees ever reach either cap, since it typically requires more than 20-25 years of continuous service.
How can I verify my MOHRE gratuity calculation online?
MOHRE does not publish a public calculator that replicates every scenario, but you can check your contract terms, salary and service dates through the MOHRE smart app or the mohre.gov.ae portal using your Emirates ID login. Compare the basic salary and dates on file with the figures you enter here, since any mismatch changes the final gratuity amount.
Does unpaid leave affect the MOHRE end of service calculator result?
Yes. Days spent on unpaid leave do not count towards your qualifying period of service. The calculator subtracts any unpaid leave days you enter from your total service before applying the 21/30-day (or 14-day, for domestic workers) accrual rate, which can lower the final gratuity figure compared with your total time employed.
Can I use this MOHRE gratuity calculator for free zone employees, such as JAFZA?
Most UAE free zones, including JAFZA, apply employment regulations that mirror Federal Decree-Law No. 33 of 2021 for gratuity purposes, so this calculator gives a close estimate. Some free zones layer on their own procedural rules, so always check your specific free zone authority and employment contract — see our JAFZA gratuity guide for the differences that matter.
